Our Alumni as Coaches: Completing the Circle of Impact

Being a teacher means being a leader, guiding students towards a better future and shaping them into future leaders themselves. This responsibility becomes even more significant when all the students come from underprivileged backgrounds. Their lives mainly revolve around their homes and schools, and they rarely venture beyond this world.

At Enabling Leadership, our teachers work with these children every day. Their role is not only to teach them specific skills but also to ensure their overall development through these skills. We utilize new and innovative learning techniques to encourage creativity, nurture social skills, and prepare the children for the real world. To accomplish this immense task, we prioritize ensuring that only the best teachers reach these children.

Enabling Leadership has a comprehensive 4-stage teacher selection process. Each teacher, coach, or mentor must successfully navigate all stages to be selected for a role. Assessment Days and interviews are critical components of this selection process. During interviews, we assess various qualities and capabilities of the applicants, while Assessment Days involve demonstrations. Assessment Centers function like miniature classrooms where all candidates participate in group and individual activities to showcase their skills, values, and thinking abilities.

For our team, Assessment Days mean much more than just a stage in the selection process. Every region holds its own Assessment Day, marking the start of our educational year. These days serve as platforms to meet new people and exchange ideas, many of which are then integrated into the classrooms. Recently, these Assessment Days have witnessed some extraordinary moments and creations.

During this year’s Assessment Day for our Play program in Mumbai, most candidates were Enabling Leadership Alumni. Their desire to return and serve is a testament to the values instilled in them during their time as students with the organization. In another instance, candidates for the Create program, involving music, collaborated to compose a song titled “Be Your Own Best Friend.” Their performance deeply moved everyone present. The Assessment Days are a collection of many such small yet meaningful moments.

Teachers are the torchbearers of the future. In our quest to find the right teachers for the holistic development of children, we will continue to devise unique selection methods. We hope these methods not only aid in finding suitable candidates but also act as breeding grounds for new ideas and innovations, broaden our network, and ultimately help us achieve our goals.
